Vera Wabegijig is a nishnaabe (Odawa & Ojibwe) poet, blogger, and mother living in Nepean, Ontario, who loves words, stories, walking, and the smell of cooking manoomin/wild rice. Her first book of poems, Wild Rice Dreams, was published by Toronto’s BookLand Press in 2013. Her writing has been printed in many anthologies including Yellow Medicine Review, XXX NDN, and Breaking the Surface. She has read her work widely at venues such as the Ottawa International Writers Festival, AB Series, Canadian Spoken Word Festival, Talking Stick Festival, Banff Centre for the Arts, VerseFest, and Voices of Venus and was a recipient of a 2016 Chalmers Arts Fellowship award. Wabegijig is passionate about learning and engaging with anishnaabemowin, her ancestral language.
